This handy rook and rabbit rifle is marked W.P. Pape New Castle Upon Tyne on the barrel. The action is a very common rook & rabbit rifle style used by many makers in the English arms trade with a rebounding hammer, side lever, and manual extractor. The walnut stock has a checkered wrist and forearm, no buttplate is fitted, which is fairly common on this style of rifle. Trigger reach is 14-1/4" and it weighs x.x pounds. This rifle qualifies as an antique and may be shipped directly to you with no FFL transfer.

The tapered octagon barrel is 26" and is chambered for the .297-230 Morris Long cartridge. This rifle should be used with black powder ammunition only. The breech end of the barrel is marked W.P. Pape New Castle Upon Tyne. The bore is mostly bright with some speckling ahead of the chamber. The front sight is a modern replacement and was cut to shape and has not been polished or blued. The rear sight is a flat top with a single leaf for extended range shooting. Typically the low sight is 50 yards and the leaf is 100 yards.

The stock has many small handling marks associated with normal use. The buttplate heel displays some wear, which is common on guns designed without a buttplate. The toe of the stock has a lifted areas that seperated along a grain boundary that is about 1-3/4" long. The wrist and forearm are both neatly checkered. The forearm is mounted with a screw through a diamond shaped inlay, rather than a splinter forend design. The side lever action breaks the rifle open to expose the breech and a extractor presents the cartridge for manual extraction.

A brass double cavity Cast Bullet Engineering, C.B.E., mold for the 297-230 Morris cartridge is included with the rifle. The mold is in excellent condition. This mold will accept common Lee commercial mold handles. The rifle also includes 60 pieces of fired brass. Many of the brass cases still need to be de-primed.

This rifle qualifies as an antique and may be shipped directly to you with no FFL transfer. Rifles of this style were a popular choice for small game hunting and were made by a variety of firms. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
