This massive Buccaneer pistol was manufactured in West Germany and imported by Hy Hunter. Stocked in beech, trimmed in brass furniture., this pistol is fitted with a .75 caliber smoothbore barrel. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. This large pistol weighs 4.6 pounds and completely fills a man sized hand. The lock on this example does not spark, with weak springs and a soft frizzen. The ramrod is also missing.
The .75 caliber smoothbore barrel measures 10-1/4" long. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. The muzzle measures .900" and tapers down to 0.750" for the first inch of the bore to ease with loading. The barrel is polished bright on the exterior and has some rust speckles from age. A small brass blade front sight is integral to the barrel band. No rear sight is used on this point and shoot pistol.
The pistol grip is fitted with a brass cap. The beech stock shows a few light scratches and handling marks from use. The brass triggerguard has aged to a dark patina, and is retained with screws front and rear. The steel ramrod is missing. The side panel is fitted with a military style brass sideplate that two bolts pass through to engage the lock on the opposite side.
The large flint lock is finished to a dull gray. The lock has a relatively weak mainspring and the frizzen is soft, so it does not spark at all. The lock plate is marked HY HUNTER / Hollywood / California / Buccaneer Modell in four lines. It is also marked Made in Germany between the frizzen spring. The pan is made of brass, and a brass flash guard is fitted through the frizzen screw. The direct drilled touch hole is correctly positioned on the hottest part of the flash for fast ignition. The single trigger is pinned high to provide a smooth release.
The lock does not spark at all when tested. The ramrod is missing. The bore is bright. If you need a decorator pistol, or a belt pistol for costume, this may be a good choice.
