In used condition, this Kentucky pistol was hand assembled from best quality pistol parts; including a black walnut stock, small Siler flintlock, and a tapered octagon-to-round barrel. The American black walnut stock is stained to a dark brown with a satin finish. The medium size grip has a pommel shape. The grip swells slightly at the end, and is fitted with an engraved brass buttcap. The 9-1/2" octagon-to-round barrel is a .54 caliber smoothbore. The bore looks perfect, clean and bright, in new condition. The top flat of the barrel is signed BTG for contemporary builder Brent Gurtek. The stock does have scattered handling marks, which look appropriate with the patina finish on metal work.

Ignition is provided by a well tuned small Siler flint lock. The Germanic style lock plate is finished to a gray brown patina with hand engraved folk art accents. This lock sparks well and we recommend our 5/8' knapped flints for best performance. A direct drilled vent hole is positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash. If your flint pistol or rifle suffers from that infamous slow whoosh-bang ignition delay, study the work of today's best gun makers, and position your vent well centered on the pan, high above the bottom, to serve as a window on the center of the flash.

Viewed from above, the wrist is fitted with a engraved silver thumbpiece with a hand engraved border and J.D. initials. The lock panels taper widest at the rear in early flint gun fashion. The lock panels are very trim and the forearm has very slender shaping that just wraps the barrel. The flared breech plug tang features engraving at the base. The octagon portion of the barrel transitions to round with hand filed wedding bands. The round portion of the barrel flares slightly near the muzzle. The top flat is hand engraved BTG. The barrel has a speckled brown patina finish, a bit darker at the breech which is typical of many antiques with a aged patina.

The bottom view of the pistol shows the short paneled ramrod pipes, brass triggerguard with potted plant finial, and buttcap. The buttcap is mounted with a steel screw and engraved with a starburst design. The langets have additional folk art style engraving. The rear of the grip is inlaid with a nickel silver folk art sun peaking over the edge of the buttcap. The brass furniture has been brought to a burnished tone and nicely aged to a mellow patina. The tapered ramrod is fitted with a flared brass tip, it has no provisions for threaded accessories. We suggest keeping this well fitted ramrod with the pistol and using a dedicated loading and cleaning rod. The brass sideplate is decorated with engraved folk art designs.
