This used mold is in good condition. The Lyman's .58 caliber, 510 grain Minie bullet mold, is single cavity, with blued steel mold blocks. This mold casts a .575" hollow base Minie bullet, to load easily, and expand to engage the rifling of your .58 Musket.
We recommend using pure lead, or soft lead scrap, when casting Minie bullets. Harder lead alloys will cast a slightly larger Minie bullet, and will require a bit more powder to expand the skirt, for accuracy. Lubricate the bullet with SPG bullet lube, or tallow based grease.
Minie bullets have a hollow base, placing the center of gravity far forward. Thus, they require SLOW rifling twist for best accuracy, unlike most bullet barrels that require a fast twist.
These precision mold blocks are made in the U.S.A. They are nice quality. Special steel alloy mold blocks hold heat well, for an even casting temperature. Steel blocks almost never wear out, if properly stored.
Mold handles are sold separately. Select either the #LYMAN-HL large mold handles, #LEE-HANDLE Commercial Mold handles, or the RCBS brand mold handles sold elsewhere to fit these mold blocks.
