This Pedersoli rifle has a Green Mountain .54 caliber barrel fitted. The stock has also been shortened to a 12-3/4" length of pull. The walnut stock has many handling marks including a large dent in the stock on the right hand side near the toe. Trimmed in brass, the furniture has some pieces bright with others aged to a dark patina. With a trigger reach of 12-7/8” and an overall weight of 6.3 pounds, this rifle has been built with today’s smaller than average size shooter in mind.
The .54 caliber Green Mountain barrel has the touch mark on the top flat ahead of the breech. The barrel is cut rifled with eight lands and grooves with a 1 in 70" twist for a tightly patched round ball. Green Mountain barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel exterior and flared tang of the breech plug have a dark brown finish. A full buckhorn rear sight is dovetailed 5-1/4" ahead of the breech. A steel blade front sigh is dovetailed 7/8" behind the muzzle.
This longrifle's walnut stock has scattered handling marks as well as one large deep dent near the toe on the right hand side of the stock. The stock has some streaks in the finish from water with black powder residue wetting it. The stock has been shortened, and the toeplate now overlaps the buttplate, instead of butting against it. The polished brass triggerguard is surface mounted with a blued steel screw at rear, and a retaining pin at front. The triggerguard has a medium large bow, to accept the double set triggers. The ramrod is fitted with 10-32 threads for loading and cleaning accessories. Our back view shows the Kentucky rifle style cheek piece, and side panel. No sideplate, toeplate, muzzle cap, or ramrod entry pipe is fitted.
The large rifle size flintlock is color case hardened in mottled colors. The frizzen and pan show normal wear from firing and cleaning. Ignition is aided by the stainless steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. Double lever double set triggers are correctly tuned to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers, in any sequence.
