This nice percussion longrifle, by Davide Pedersoli of Italy, has been recreated in the Kentucky longrifle style. Stocked in walnut, the rifle is trimmed entirely in brass furniture, and is offered as-new in the factory box. The color case hardened percussion lock is mated to a single trigger and a straight octagon .45 caliber barrel. Trigger reach on the rifle is 13-1/4" and the overall weight is 7.3 pounds, making it well suited for today's average man size shooter.
The .45 caliber by 35-1/2" straight octagon barrel is factory blued. The finish does not show any signs from use. The .45 caliber bore is rifled with a slow twist for a tightly patched round ball. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. Order our #BALL-440 round balls, and #OX-10-40-D patches, and #MINK-OIL tallow lubricant. A flat top rear sight is dovetailed 7-1/2" ahead of the breech. A blued front blade sight is dovetailed 1-1/4" behind the muzzle. The caliber and factory information is stamped on the left oblique flat near the breech. The date code indicates this rifle was manufactured in 2023.
The walnut stock is stained to a warm brown and nicely contrasts the brass furniture and color case hardened lock. The brass patchbox is correctly mounted using steel screws, as original. The stock does not show any marks from use. When viewed from above the slightly tapered comb of the rifle can be seen as it slowly flares from the wrist to the buttplate. Ahead of the comb the wrist sweeps up to the short rounded tang of the breech. Our bottom view reveals the brass toeplate and triggerguard of the rifle. Held in position by two screws the toeplate has been fit to protect the toe against damage during the loading and cleaning process. Ahead the triggerguard is retained by two screws as well.
Forward on the gun, and out of the picture, the factory wooden ramrod is fitted with a brass loading tip, and the hidden end has a brass tip threaded to accept 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories. The wooden ramrod is held in place by two forward and one entry ramrod pipe. We note the wood stands significantly proud of the entry pipe. A brass muzzle cap has also been installed on the gun to protect the end grain of the wood below the muzzle. Our final look at this percussion rifle reveals the back side of the gun. A large brass sideplate is inlet flush with the stock. Note that no cheek has been formed on the rifle; the stock has been left plain and unadorned.
The percussion lock is unmarked. Color case hardened in mottled colors, this lock has a strong mainspring. The drum is well supported by the lock plate, and is fitted with a 1/4-28 iron nipple. The single trigger is pinned to provide a smooth release of the lock.
