Assembled from a kit, this CVA Frontier Rifle is stocked in beech, finished as cherry, and is trimmed in brass furniture. The stock has many scattered handling marks and shows wear in the finish from use. The bore of this rifle is bright and has been well maintained. This .45 caliber rifle is short, light, and will be handy to carry in the deep woods. The trigger reach is 13-1/2" for today's average size shooter, and this rifle weighs 7.4 pounds.
The .45 caliber 28" by 15/16" straight octagon barrel is rifled with a 1:48 twist for a patched round ball. The barrel is fitted with a long rear sight that is screw adjustable for elevation. A brass blade front sight set in an iron base is dovetailed behind the muzzle. The bore is bright, and is ready to shoot. The barrel exterior was cold blued to a silvery gray. The factory information is stamped on the left oblique flat near the breech. We recommend our .440" Hornady pure lead round ball, with .015" dry patches, lubricated with our Mink Oil Tallow patch lubricant, over 60 grains of GOEX FFg black powder, and a No. 11 percussion cap.
The beech stock is finished to a deep cherry red. The stock has many scattered handling marks and wear in the finish. The brass has aged to a mellow patina from use. A simple brass buttplate without a comb is fitted to help absorb the recoil from the .45 caliber bore. We note a leather spacer was used between the buttplate and the stock. The short tang anchors the hooked breech, and a steel key retains the barrel, for simple cleaning. It is easy to remove the barrel and clean it with hot soapy water, dry, oil, and re-assemble. The brass triggerguard is shaped with a grip rail, and has developed a mellow patina to match the rest of the brass found on this rifle. A brass forend cap protects the end grain of the stock and acts as the ramrod entry pipe. The wooden ramrod is fitted with a brass loading tip. The opposite end is fitted with a brass tip threaded to accept 10-32 cleaning and loading accessories. No cheek is formed on this rifle. The lock is retained with two bolts that pass through simple brass washer style sideplates that are surface mounted on the side panel.
Ignition is provided by a Maslin style percussion lock with engraved plate, hammer and color case hardened finish. A drum and Hot Shot steel nipple are fitted to barrel, the nipple is a 6-1mm thread. Order our nipple #CVA-S should you need a spare. Fitted with a double set trigger that can be tuned to the exact trigger pull you desire. These triggers are properly tuned to fire from the set or unset position. This is a nice feature being quite versatile when using the gun for target or hunting.
