Known as the Ethan Allen pistol this design was popular during the 1849 Gold Rush. The box lock pistol has a steel frame with integral 3" octagon section which serves as a breech plug. The barrel is threaded and inserted. This pistol has been fitted with a Green Mountain barrel that was turned and fitted to the action. The grip has been reshaped to a larger flared profile and fitted with checkered walnut grips. The triggerguard is hand made from nickel silver sheet and formed to fit the pistol. The action and barrel are rust blued to a dark even blue tone. The breech is marked Ethan Allen by Hoppe's on the quarter flat. A nickel silver flash cup is fitted to protect the finish at the breech from repeated cap flash and over spray. The barrel is served by a hickory ramrod with a nickel silver tip with 8-32 threads for accessories.
The .45 caliber Green Mountain barrel is rifled with eight lands and grooves with a 1 in 20" twist for patched round ball. Green Mountain barrels are machined from high quality American made bar stock, A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel quality steel. All barrels are drilled from solid stock, reamed to a high degree of smoothness, then optically checked for straightness. Very close tolerances are maintained. We recommend our .440" pure lead round ball, patched with .017" Ox-Yoke ticking, and a 20 grain charge of 3Fg black powder. The barrel is fitted with a open top globe front sight. The rear sight was hand made to closely match published antique examples. The long strap sight is dovetailed to the barrel and fitted with a knurled knob to raise or lower the rear sight.
