Trade pistols were a popular item during the Fur Trade. This replica Ketland trade pistol is stocked in black walnut with a warm even brown tone. The polished brass furniture has a bright appearance and nicely compliments the tone of the stock. The tapered flared barrel is finished bright to match the finish on the L&R flintlock. Hand assembled by builder Kenneth Lincavage. This pistol has a few marks on the frizzen face, but otherwise appears unfired.

The 8" tapered round barrel has a slight flare at the muzzle. The .62 caliber bore is bright in as-new condition. The exterior of the barrel is finished armory bright and will develop to a silver patina with use. No sights are fitted in trade pistol, or dragoon pistol style, where they were intended to be used at close range.

Finished bright to match the barrel, the L&R flintlock has a crisp action and a well hardened frizzen. When using our best 3/4" knapped English gun flints, #FLINT-ENG-6, the lock will throw a shower of sparks into the pan. A direct drilled vent hole is well centered and positioned at the top edge of the pan to provide best ignition.

Viewed from above the breech end of the barrel is fitted with a rounded flared tang. A neatly indexed tang bolt engages the triggerplate below. The lock panels taper widest at the rear in 18th and early 19th century style. Viewed from the bottom the triggerguard is correctly mounted with pins. The rear extension has been neatly inlet into the pistol grip. All of the brass furniture has been polished and will acquire a natural patina with use and handling. The ramrod pipes are shaped with raised rings and a thumbnail skirt on the entry pipe. The tapered ramrod has a flared brass tip with no provisions for threaded accessories. We recommend using a pistol loading rod, our #PL-7-62, and leaving this well fitted ramrod with the pistol. Two domed head lock bolts secure the L&R flintlock. The sideplate is a classic early 1800's flush mounted design with a British military influence.

Neatly fitted and finished this light weight Ketland style trade pistol with its' early 19th century styling, will be a delight to carry at the rendezvous, an historical event, or as a trusted companion when trekking through the woods. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
