This holster pistol by contemporary builder Leonard Day III is stocked in walnut and trimmed in browned iron furniture. The Classic European flintlock and tapered octagon-to-round smoothbore barrel are also finished to a dark plumb brown. This pistol is similar in overall style to a light dragoon pistol from the 1740's. The weight of the gun is 2.6 pounds and it fits comfortably into the average size mans hand. This pistol would make a great piece for an impression of the French and Indian War or the American Revolutionary War.

This classic European flint lock is a refined early style lock, with a pointed tail on the lock plate. The lock plate has a flat face with chamfered edges. The plate is made with an integral pan and a bridle arm to support the frizzen pivot screw, which was a advanced feature on a early lock. .A vent hole has been directly drilled into the barrel to give the priming flash a straight path to the main charge.

From above the .62 caliber smoothbore barrel is 10" tapered octagon-to-round. A single wedding band is located 4" inches forward of the breech. At the rear of the barrel a straight tang projects toward the wrist, a single tang bolt engages the tang on top and the triggerplate below. Surrounding the tang is an area of raised carving that transitions into the raised moldings on the lock panels. The grip is adorned with a browned iron thumbpiece decorated with a C scrolls and a crown. The walnut stock has been stained a medium brown and the finish has a satin sheen. The forearm of the stock is shaped with a raised molding just below the upper edge of the ramrod channel.

Our bottom view shows off the browned iron grip cap and retainer, dragoon style triggerguard, as well as the ringed ramrod pipes. Note the extension of the grip cap that runs up the wrist, this is seen on both sides and is a common feature on military pistols of the time. A raised molding is shaped around the ramrod channel and skirt of the ramrod entry pipe. The ramrod has no provisions for threaded accessories. A browned iron band protects the end grain at the muzzle end of the stock. This backside view of the gun shows the sideplate that is engraved with a border and flaming torch decorations on the ends.

Neatly constructed this French influenced holster pistol would be ideal for a French and Indian War or Revolutionary War reenactor, consider this dragoon pistol for your impression. This pistol is shows only a few marks on the frizzen from being tested. The bore is bright, clean, and this pistol is ready to shoot. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
