Neatly fitted this well made Kentucky pistol is unsigned. Stocked in a nice piece of curly maple the pistol is browned iron furniture with a light patina. The 10" straight octagon Green Mountain Barrel Company has been draw filed smooth and finished to a blue with a gray undertone. The .45 caliber bore is mirror bright, cut rifled with eight lands and grooves with a fast twist ideal for a patched round ball. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The barrel is fitted with a small steel blade front sight and dovetailed with a rear sight.
Ignition is provided by this pistol size small Siler flint lock, through a stainless steel vent liner, for best ignition. The lock has a distinctive Germanic look with octagon pan and chamfered edges of the lock plate. This lock captures the styling used on many Kentucky pistols. The lock plate is neatly decorated with folk art scrolls. Unfired, we recommend our 5/8" Tom Fuller knapped English Gun Flints, #FLINT-ENG-5 for best performance in this lock.
The flared thumbnail tang of the pistol curves back down the wrist; no carvings or fancy inlays can be found around the tang. The pistol is very utilitarian in design. The sweeping wrist curves down into the grip creating a comfortable curve for the shooters hand to engage. The bottom view of the pistol shows the browned steel triggerguard, entry pipe, rod pipe, and muzzlecap. All of the furniture is browned with the the edges worn bright to give is a very slight patina finish. The barrel is served by a 5/16" diameter ramrod fitted with a steel tip. The hidden end of the ramrod is fitted with a brass tip fitted with a 8-32 thread diameter. The steel sideplate is finished in the same manner as the other furniture on the gun, with a slight patina. Retained by two small domed lock bolts that pass through the stock to engage the lock on the opposite side, the sideplate has a few lines of engraving with a design similar to that found on the lock. Note the curve of the wrist of the pistol, a comfortable shooting platform that makes the pistol easy to hold.
