This left hand fowling gun is stocked in maple and features a 20 gauge smoothbore barrel matted to an L&R flint lock. This fowler is trimmed in brass with a patina finish. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. This well made fowler has no fancy decoration or additions. Rugged, simple, utilitarian, it will bring home meat for the table, just like in Colonial days. With an overall weight of 7.6 pounds the gun has a trigger reach of 13-5/8”, nicely arranged for today’s average size left hand shooter.

The 42" barrel is tapered octagon, with a wedding band transition, and tapered round to the muzzle. The bore is .615" diameter, allowing it to be used with either a ball and patch, or shot with cards and wad. We recommend our .595" pure lead round ball, patched with .010" Ox-Yoke patches, lubricated with Ox-Yoke Wonder Lube, for easy loading. We offer 20 gauge (.62 caliber) wads, cards, and shot for wing shooting. A brass turtle blade front sight is soldered 1-1/2" behind the muzzle. This smoothbore has no rear sight, and it qualifies for the NMLRA Trade Gun Match rules, shooting both round balls at paper targets, and shot at clay birds. The barrel is finished to a silvery-gray patina finish and the right oblique flat is stamped BC near the breech.

Stocked in maple, this fowler is finished to a rich dark color with golden undertone. The gun is fitted with a wide flat brass buttplate to help absorb the recoil from the 20 gauge bore. The comb of the buttplate is decorated with five flats and a wedding band. All of the brass has a dark patina finish. A single tang bolt passes through the straight tang of the breech plug to engage the trigger plate below. Three small steel pins retain the barrel to the forearm.

The bottom view of the gun shows off the rounded toe and brass triggerguard. The trigger guard is retained with a pin in the rear and a screw towards the front. An acorn finial decorates the front of this English style guard. The wooden ramrod is fitted with a brass tip threaded to accept 8-32 cleaning and loading accessories. The ramrod is retained with two rounded brass pipes and matching entry pipe. No cheek is formed, in true fowling gun fashion. A large brass sideplate fills the side panel and two domed bolts pass through to engage the lock on the opposite side.

Fast ignition is provided by the L&R left handed English style flintlock, that is finished to match the barrel. The lock has a very strong mainspring, to throw sparks well. We recommend our best English 7/8" gun flint, #FLINT-ENG-7. Order a dozen flints to serve your gun. The steel vent liner is perfectly centered, positioned well above the pan, located at the hottest part of the flash. The single trigger is pinned to provide a smooth release of the lock.
